Blog #25

Survival
* Where is your internship? My internship is located in Downtown in a high rise building.
* How did you get there? My mom drove and picked me up at my internship.
* How long did it take? It took me about 15 minutes to get there and get home.
* What did you eat for breakfast? For breakfast I ate a burrito with egg, bacon, and cheese.
* What food, coffee, or other survival options are nearby? There is a Chipotle and a sub store nearby.
* What can you eat for lunch in a normal day at internship? For a normal day at internship I will bring my own lunch.
* Where will you sit, stand, be, or work when you are internship? I will be working in my mentor's office at a round table and walking around Downtown with her to go to court.
* Where are the bathrooms? The bathrooms are next to the office and by the elevators.

People
* Who is your mentor and what is he or she like? My mentor is Marcee Chipman and she is full energy and passion. She is constantly busy and doing something but you can tell she enjoys what she does and has lots of fun.
* What stands out most or seems most interesting about your mentor? What stands out the most about my mentor is how funny she is and is also easy to talk to. She was talking to me and filling me in on what was going on but joking around and making it enjoyable.
* Who are your other coworkers? In the office is another lawyer named Jerry, who I may work with at times to see the civil side of law. Humberto is also in the office and works with Jerry and is at the front desk.
* What stands out most or seems most interesting about your future coworkers? The two other workers are also funny and easy to talk to. They made me feel very comfortable and Humberto took me around the courthouse to show me how it worked.

Work
* What is your internship project likely to be? My project will involve working and shadowing my mentor to help prepare her two cases for trial and attend court as well.
* What skills will you use at your internship? At internship I will use my note taking skills, organization, and logic to figure out how to work a case and what questions should be asked.
* What are you likely to learn at internship? I will learn how to prepare a case and the various laws that are involved with court. I will learn how the court system works, paperwork, evidence, and charges.
* What will you create at your internship? I will create a case to help my mentor with her defendants. I will have a trial notebook and prepare evidence.

Thoughts
* What might present a challenge at internship? A challenge may be the intensity of the cases. The things I will be hearing are very horrific and I am nervous that the subject matter will be too hard for me to listen to.
* What is surprising about your internship? What surprised me the most was how sweet and kind my mentor was. She was very helpful and was telling me what was happening as we toured the courthouse and sat in on a case. She also kept introducing me to people around the court and that made me feel excited that I am going to be so involved with her.
* How will you stand out at your internship? I will stand out by showing Marcee how hard I work to learn new things and do the best I can. I hope to show her my dedication and my joy for new experiences.
* What will you do to make the most of this opportunity? I will make sure to take advantage of everyday at internship by learning, listening, and taking in what is going around me. This is a great chance to see law through a defense perspective and I don't know if I would ever want to pursue that area of law.

And...
* What was the most memorable part of your internship site visit? This most exciting part was visiting court for the first time. It was exciting to see all of the lawyers working and running around. It was also amazing to sit in on a court hearing and listen to a witness being questioned and the judge having to make his decision.
