What stands out the most to me about the Icons Project is the emotion that people showcased in their statements. When this project started I did not anticipate that theses pieces would be so emotional and revealing. But when we were working on this project, and when it was finished, I realized that everyone put so much thought and honesty into their pieces. It didn't matter if their object was a celebrity, family member, or even an object. Every ones' piece gave insight into who they are and a personal experience. I think this is a great project to start off with because it allowed me to get to know my peers on a level that I did not already know or would get a chance to know.
I feel that the experience through this project helped me improve my writing. The tips are some of the most helpful ones that I have ever received. They showed me that you don't need to write a bunch of fluff or use big words, for the sake of using big words, to create a strong writing piece. You can have a simple sentence and a simple statement, yet it is impactful because it it honest and gets to the point. I feel that I have already improved on my writing and have learned how to edit down what I say. I also feel that the work I produced is some of my best because of the time and effort I put into it. I created multiple drafts and got them critiqued by many peers. I worked hard to get the the final draft I have now and am proud of the work ethic I used.
As we are about to publish the book I am excited to see my writing published. It is always a great feeling to know your work will be out there for others to read. I'm excited to see how the book is actually going to look and what the cover design will be. I feel that we have many creative people in our classes and look forward to see what ideas they have.
